A truly marvellous spectacle of snow and ice construction, Lainio Snow Village resides in the western region of Finnish Lapland, 200km above the Arctic Circle.

Each year around a thousand tonnes of snow are used to create the Snow Village, which covers an area of approximately 20,000 square metres.

The design and theme of the hotel change annually but continue to offer guests a magical combination of ice artistry and construction. Here you can spend the night in a snow room or ice suite and marvel at the magnificent creativity and talent of the ice artists.

Hotel facilities

  • The Snow Village consists of around 30 snow rooms and suites in addition to a restaurant, chapel, a bar and outdoor sculptures (all made from snow and ice).
  • In the evening you will enjoy a three-course meal in the ice restaurant. Alternatively, you can eat in the warm restaurant, where your breakfast is served. The food here is hearty and wholesome. You will be able to sample both local and international dishes.
  • There is also a warm underground level beneath the snow rooms, where you will have access to a warming sauna, shower and toilet facilities and a large room with a fireplace should you wish to warm up. Please note that the sauna must be booked and paid for in advance at reception.

Room types

Crafted from snow and ice, the snow rooms have a decorated bed frame and bedside tables. On top of the ice bed, there will be a mattress topped with reindeer skins and you will be provided with a high-quality Arctic grade sleeping bag to keep you warm. The guides here will give you expert advice on how to get the best night’s sleep. The room temperatures hold at around -5°C, no matter what the outside temperatures and your sleeping bag and the reindeer skins will provide enough insulation to keep you warm. In the morning, you will be woken up with a glass of hot juice.

The Aurora Zone was born out of our love of all things wintery. We were already regular visitors to the likes of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland thanks to a fascination with winter activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling and the Scandinavian way of life. Many of our visits coincided with sightings of the Northern Lights and The Aurora Zone was born from a desire to share Mother Nature’s greatest wonder with as many people as possible. We have all been held in the Aurora’s thrall and our mission is to do our very best to ensure that our clients can experience that magical moment on their Northern Lights holiday.
