How fit do I need to be for my holiday?
The answer to this question depends on which trip you are considering as, on the vast majority of our holidays, it is not necessary to have had any special training or high fitness levels. Each trip is given a 'pace' rating (relaxed, balanced, active or set your own) so you can be clear of which holiday would be the most suitable for you and our travel experts will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about your fitness level.
There are a few things that are important to bear in mind when it comes to fitness on our Aurora Zone experiences. The first is that that you will be spending a fair amount of time in low temperatures which can cause you to be more tired than usual. The second thing to consider is that most of our holidays have been designed with beginners in mind and the people that go on our trips have usually never travelled to such locations before or had experience of activities such as husky safaris or snowmobiling - the guides will not throw you in at the deep end!
If you are unsure about the physical demands of a particular holiday please get in touch and our team will help accordingly.
If you or any member of your party is pregnant or has any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday or has any special requirements as a result of any medical condition or disability (including any which affect the booking process), please tell us before you confirm your booking so that we can assist you in considering the suitability of the arrangements and/or making the booking.
If necessary you will need to ensure that you have contacted a doctor and discussed the itinerary before booking and you will also need to ensure you are covered by travel insurance, which is a pre-requisite for booking one of our holidays. It is also vital you keep us informed of any medical condition (including pregnancy) or disability which arises following your booking and prior to departure. See our terms and conditions for more details.
Our handcrafted relaxed pace itineraries are ideal for those who are looking for a leisurely pace during their holiday. Our relaxed programmes do not compromise on the key experiences a destination offers but you will not be required to participate in any strenuous activity to enjoy them. The holidays will include more significant periods of downtime for guests to relax, enjoy a good book or enjoy a sauna experience.
You will still get to see spectacular things and have truly memorable experiences though such as gazing at the Northern lights from the comfort of a snowmobile-pulled sleigh or lazing in Iceland's Blue Lagoon.
Many of our relaxed pace holidays are designed as self-drive holidays and so there is an element of flexibility involved when it comes to this pace. We can really look to tailor it to your needs on a day by day basis.
Our balanced holidays offer the best of both worlds to our guests with a mixture of activities and free time to give you flexibility alongside some incredible experiences. These holidays typically will include half day activities and, whilst these holidays require a bit of a sense of adventure, the physical requirements are not too high and those who are relatively active should be able to participate. They are ideal for those who want to try something unique and different but also have the time to simply relax, unwind and explore in their free time.
Our holidays will include activity highlights such as dog sledding safaris and snowmobiling but you will typically not be out for any longer than half a day. This means that you can enjoy the company of a good book and a log fire in the morning and a team of huskies in the afternoon, still feeling refreshed and ready to head off on the next experience the following day. There is typically a free day also included so that you can set your own itinerary.
Our active holidays are fairly self descriptive and include activities on most days which are typically of a longer duration than those on the balance holidays. You will be out enjoying your destination in an active way for fairly long periods of time and if you are travelling in winter then you do need to be aware that long days in sub-zero temperatures can be tiring (but exhilarating too!)
Our active holidays include those which provide a multitude of different activities from full day experiences, to multi day dog sled and snowmobile expeditions. We have short breaks for those who want maximum experience from minimal time and we have week-long fairly balanced trips that culminate in an overnight dog sled safari.
For most of the holidays an average fitness level and a sense of real adventure are all you need but for the multi – day expeditions you will need to have a good level of fitness to participate.
These holidays can really get you out and about into the some of the wildest corners of the world and provide some experiences that are not to be missed.
Set your own
On many of our holidays you have the opportunity to book a base package and then with the help of our experts you can tailor the itinerary to completely suit your needs. This is typically during our tailor made options where we give you the chance to book all of your accommodation, flights and transfers around your chosen duration (minimum of three nights). You can then choose from a handpicked selection of activities and experiences to incorporate into your stay from a weekly schedule.
The beauty of these holidays is that typically each member of a party can tailor their own pace and so, if you are travelling in a group, nobody is restricted to the itinerary that someone else would like and everyone can do as much or as little as is preferable.
So if you have a group where some younger ones want to have a high impact and action-packed holiday and the older group a slightly different pace (or vice versa of course!) then it can easily be done. It means, for example, that three generations of one family could still travel together and enjoy experiences together but that each person could have their own tailor made itinerary to suit them.
You can also very easily cater for a group where there are varying levels of fitness.
Any activities included in your itinerary are all designed for beginners unless otherwise stated. Full instruction and tuition are provided for all activities and you do not need to have any previous experience. For example you need never have set foot on a pair of skis of any kind before a cross country ski tour.
